Key Ukraine sectors to benefit from new EU financing agreements

The EU will provide €116 million for transport, environment, institutional capacity buildingand support of ENP implementation under three new financing agreements with the Ukrainian government. According to a press release from the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the deals were signed by EuropeAid Development and Co-operation Director Marcus Cornaro and Ukrainian Trade Minister Andriy Klyuyev. 

The funds, allocated to transport, environment, institutional capacity buildingand support of the implementation of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), will be channelled through sector budget support during the period 2011-2014. An initial €12 million is expected to be transferred to the national budget in mid-2011.

The transport sector will receive the major part of the funding – €65 million - allocated to support the implementation of the national transport strategy. Ukraine aims to achieve 11 indicators in different transport sub-sectors and focus on five key cooperation areas: institutional reforms, safety, infrastructure development, movement of traffic flows and administrative capacity strengthening.
