EU and Russia focus on fostering children’s rights

The European Union and the Russian Federation are launching a new project fostering children’s rights, according to a press release from the EU Delegation to Russia. A joint initiative “Application of the Hague Conventions on the protection of children’s rights in the Russian Federation” will run until December 2011 with a total budget of €500,000.

Focusing on two major international conventions adopted under the Hague Conference on international private law, the project aims to facilitate EU–Russia cooperation in protecting and fostering children’s rights through international and intergovernmental mechanisms.

Studies and analysis will be carried out on the interaction of the two Conventions (Convention on the civil aspects of international child abduction of 1980 and Convention on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition, enforcement and cooperation in respect of parental responsibility and measures for the protection of children of 1996).
